MINUTES

CALL TO ORDER

Meeting was called to order by Chairman Art Casanova at 6:15 p.m.


TOWN CENTER UPDATE

Federal Reality Representatives, Don Briggs and Rodger Ours, indicated future announcements are to be made over the next 6 to 12 months regarding commercial and retail store opportunities for the Rockville Town Center. Susan Hoffman suggested the concept of an event or open house so residents can continue to provide input to Federal Reality. Phyllis Marcuccio commented about the design and edges of the Town Center Plan especially the new library. Ruth Hanessian discussed overall aesthetic concerns and was followed by Phyllis Marcuccio’s comment about the design of the new library (height of building as compared to other proposed structures). Mike Menaker inquired if there was a scale model of the proposed Town Center (at this time, there is not a scale model). The idea of meeting again with Federal Reality was embraced by all…more to follow on this topic.


ARNA CONFEENCE; THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 25th

Randy Alton updated the response to date for the Thursday, September 25th ARNA Conference to be held at the Rockville Glenview Mansion. The formal invitation draft letter to the District 17 Legislative Team was approved and will be forwarded to Senator Jennie Forehand, Delegate Kumar Barve, and Delegate Luiz Simmons. Randy will keep the Steering Committee updated regarding any additional responses.

ARNA members are asked to begin submitting questions for the September Conference to the Steering Committee for consideration. Potential questions for the District 17 Legislative team should be forwarded to Art Casanova, ARNA Chairman.

A motion was made by Mike Menaker and seconded by Randy Alton that one member from each association would be invited to the September 25, 2003, ARNA Conference to be held at the Rockville Glenview Mansion. The motion passed by unanimous vote.

The City of Rockville Neighborhood Resources staff will disseminate the Conference invitation to the respective ARNA members/designees.


ARNA AWARDS PROGRAM

ARNA is in the early stages of studying the possibility of giving an annual ARNA award. Ruth Hanessian will follow-up with additional ideas and information regarding possible criteria and guidelines for this concept at our August ARNA Steering Committee Meeting.

ARNA CHAIR

Art Casanova indicated that nominations will be accepted in August for the next ARNA Chair rotation. The general ARNA membership will vote in September to approve the nomination.


APPROVE MINUTES

A motion was made by Mike Menaker and seconded by Randy Alton to approve the May 27, 2003, and June 24, 2003, ARNA minutes. Motion to approve the minutes was unanimous.

ADJOURNMENT

The motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Art Casanova and seconded by Mike Menaker. Motion was unanimous. Meeting Adjourned at 7:00 p.m.
