![]() The items on listed on this page are assorted notices addressed to the Hungerford Civic Association. These are mostly official notices sent by various Rockville City government departments. Other sources are noted below. If the notice includes any public event, the time and place of that event are noted below. Smoke
Testing of Sanitary Sewers In order to improve sewer service, the sanitary sewer pipes in Hungerford will be tested for ground water leaks which depletes flow capacity and increases treatment costs. Smoke testing will be conducted by URS Corporation with assistance from City of Rockville's Dept. of Public Works staff. The smoke testing process is conducted by introducing non-toxic, non-staining smoke into an isolated portion of the sewer system using a gas-powered blower which forces the smoke to areas where possible leaks occur. This testing will be
completed over several days and work is expected to begin in mid-November.
You will receive a door notice approximately 48 hours in advance. For more
information contact Craig Daly, Project Manager at 240-314-8513 or by
e-mail or Maria Boradbent, Neigh. Resources Coord. at 240-314-8345 or by-email.
Public
Forum on County Councilmember
Nancy Floreen is convening a public forum on practice of the County Planning
Dept. The ostensible subject is how to improve them after the troubles
identified in Clarksburg. This will be held December 10th, at the Johns
Hopkins campus here in Montgomery Co.
Trash
Collection Pilot Project The Hungerford area is under consideration for a pilot project of new City trash collection service. Changes in service may include the City providing large standardized containers for semi-automated handling and curb-side pick-up would be expected (except for those that can show a need for yard or door service). A second and separate container for paper and cardboard recycling would be provided. Service is likely to shift to one day a week with holiday interruptions made-up on another day of the same week. The need for this is to combat rising costs. The focus is to do so in ways that minimally impact critical service and convenience aspects of current service. If you have any comments or questions, contact the officers of this Assn. A decision on the pilot area is expected to be made in late November, with service changes starting in spring 2006. Assuming the pilot project runs smoothly, future trash service would conform to the same process. Millenium Trail Completion (Construction along Wootton Parkway) Construction along the neighborhood side of Wootton Parkway between West Edmonston Drive and Rockville Pike will occur shortly. This will build a pedestrian/bicycle pathway connecting the now floating ends of the Millenium Trail, a circular route around the City. Click here for more information. Rockville Pike Corridor Neighborhood Plan Update
The opening public workshop meeting was held October 18. The City is requesting nominations to a steering committee to see this process through. This assoc. expects to nominate Bill Meyers as a neighborhood representative to this planning process. Future steering meetings and public hearings will be announced. For more information, contact Theodis Perry, in the City Planning Dept., by e-mail or by phone at 240-314-8213. Hungerford Showcased in Washington Post Article
Hungerford was showcased in the real estate section of the Washington Post, March 27 edition.
Richard Montgomery HS Reconstruction Plan
Montgomery County Public Schools has released a proposed plan for the reconstruction of Richard Montgomery High School.
This plan has been reviewed by the City Planning Commission and received initial variance and special exception approvals from the Board of Appeals.
The Assoc. is concerned about insufficient parking for the expanded facility and potential impacts on residential streets of the neighborhood.
On-line Streaming of City Cable Channel Programming The City has established the on-line streaming of City Cable Channel (TRC 11) programming. So all coverage can now be viewed on-line, using streaming audio-visual and Windows Media Player (a common and free browser plug-in).
This is a great way to see live and rebroadcast coverage of City meetings and events if you do not have a cable connection hook-up. The schedule of programming appears on the entry webpage too.
Now, if you have a computer with an internet connection and browser, you can receive this broadcasting too. |
