Architectural Control Guidelines

New Mark Commons, like many neighborhoods, has adopted an architectural control policy to preserve the community's high standards of building design, maintain physical appearance and to protect property values. Article X of the Covenants establishes the principal of architectural control and has at its basic requirement that no exterior addition or change (including any change in color) be made until the plans and specifications have been submitted to and approved in writing by the Homeowners Association board.

Before You...

Paint a door

Build an addition

Replace a fence

Change a light fixture

...or begin any other exterior modification to your home, you MUST get approval from the Board!

Fortunately, getting approval for most projects is quick and easy. Application forms can be found in the back of your homeowners information packet, are available directly from the board (call 301-340-0288) or can be downloaded in Adobe PDF format.

The homeowners association and your neighbors take the architectural control guidelines very seriously. Failure to comply may result in legal action, and you will be personally responsible for the cost and materials required to bring your home into compliance.
