Television Coverage

Three groups have been selected to hold forums among candidates for Rockville's Mayor and Council that will be broadcast on the City's cable television station, The Rockville Channel (TRC-11).

The first debate to be televised will be sponsored jointly by the Hungerford Civic Association, the Lynfield Neighborhood Association and the New Mark Commons Home Owners Association. The forum is scheduled for Sept. 30 at 7 p.m. at the Elwood Smith Community Center.

The East Rockville Civic Association and the Lincoln Park Civic Association will co-sponsor the second forum on Oct. 9 starting at 7 p.m. at the Lincoln Park Community Center.

Seven community associations that joined together as a forum sponsor were selected to host the third forum at the Theater Arts Auditorium of Montgomery College in Rockville, on October 21. The forum will be co-sponsored by the College Gardens Civic Association, the Woodley Gardens Civic Association, the West End Civic Association, the Woodley Gardens West End Homeowners Association, College Square Condominiums, Regents Square Condominiums and the Plymouth Woods Civic Association.

Certified as eligible to host forums, but not selected in a random drawing, were the King Farm Civic Association and the joint application of the Rockville Chamber of Commerce and Community Ministries of Rockville.

Each group hosting a forum is responsible for all aspects of the event, except for the technical needs for broadcasting that will be handled by the TRC-11 staff. The hosting groups select the venue, the moderator and the questions that will be asked.

The debates will be broadcast numerous times on TRC-11 prior to the election. A complete schedule will be available on the City Web site at www.rockvillemd.gov and in the November Election Guide of the Rockville City newsletter Rockville Reports.
