Music lovers are getting “In the Mood” for some excellent swing jazz music. And they will be sure to be satisfied at “A Swingin’ Sunday” on Sunday, Feb. 26. The free concert will feature the talent of the Rockville Concert Band members, along with that of upcoming musicians from Montgomery County Public Schools’ Senior Honors Jazz Ensemble. And for the first time, members of the Rockville Concert Band’s jazz ensemble and the Honors Jazz Ensemble will perform together. The concert will be held at 3 p.m. at Rockville’s F. Scott Fitzgerald Theatre. No tickets are required. Under the direction of Vince Patterson, the Rockville Concert Band has been entertaining the Rockville community since 1957. For the first time in the bands’ history, a group of high school student musicians will play alongside the seasoned Concert Band members during a performance at F. Scott Fitzgerald Theatre. Students in the Montgomery County Public Schools’ Senior Honors Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Peter Perry, will perform with the Concert band’s jazz ensemble. The students are selected by audition and represent various Montgomery County high schools with distinction. The concert will feature music by the entire Rockville Concert Band, then the MCPS Senior Honors Jazz Ensemble. For the finale, the adult and high school jazz bands will join together for a blow-out good time.
