                     ROCKNET MEETING MINUTES

                         April 11, 2002

The meeting opened at 7:30 pm in The City Manager's Conference Room of 
Rockville City Hall.

In attendance were:
  Julie Kasper (City IT staff)
  Bob Ekman
  Ben Pauwels
  Brian Pierce
  Jim Beller
  Roald Schrack
  Stan Klein

1) Minutes of March 14 accepted.

2) Report from Julie:
* New Computer has arrived but is not yet set up. It was decided that work
on the new server will have to be delayed until after May 12.
* Budget Information for FY 2003 has been placed on City website.
* Also included Capital Improvements program
* Rockville Students art show  and Skate park pages new on city web site.
* The Mayor and Council Strategic Plan for 2002 - 2007 is also up.

Julie reports that web pages under development are:
* MPDU (Moderately Priced Dwelling Unit Program) page
* Traffic and Transportation report.
* Pedestrian Safety plan.
* Bicycle Safety plan.
* Hometown Holidays
* Summer Recreation Guide

3) Bob reported that the IRS 501(c)(3) forms are ready to go.

4) There was a discussion of the possible liability of Rocknet for comments
that will be carried by the listserve system and then posted in the
archives. It was decided to ask the city attorney about this.

5) It was reported that the Twinbrook Community bulletin board has had very
little response despite some attempts to stimulate discussion.

6) Bob announced that several members had expressed their willingness to
help on the Science Day exhibit. There was a discussion of the possibility
of producing a CD-ROM to be given away at the exhibit. Ben Pauwels
volunteered to see about producing an auto load program for the CD-ROM.

7) Bob suggested a web page with downloadable utilities, web page
development aids, and virus protection material.

8) Jim Beller brought in an article on wireless distribution of Internet
connection on Hawaii. There was considerable discussion of how this might
be done here. It was decided to place the improvement of broadband access
on the agenda for the next meeting.

The meeting adjourned at 9:00 pm.
