E-mail Discussion Lists

RockNet has established an online e-mail discussion list for interested Rockville residents, students, business owners, City staff, council and commission members and others interested in issues pertaining to Rockville.

A "list" is a group of e-mail addresses such that by sending an email to a single e-mail account, all members of the list get a copy of the email. The email is broadcasted to all list members. The "list manager" allows list members to join and leave the list. To join or leave a list,  you send a special email to the list manager. You must join the list to send email to the list.

Our general discussion list name is rcnet, with an e-mail address of rcnet@rocknet.org.

To join the list...

You can join our list by sending an email to the list manager. The body of the email should be blank. For example, if susan@company.com wanted to join "rcnet", she would sent the following message:

         To: join-rcnet@rocknet.org
    Subject:
 --------------------------------------------------------------

After sending the "join" email, you will receive an email from the list manager. You will need to reply to this email to complete your joining the list. After your reply is processed, you will receive a welcome message which you should keep because it contains information about how to leave the list.

To send a note to the list...

To send an email to all "rcnet" list members, use a message with the following form (the e-mail address is case insensitive).

    Subject: Nice Web Site
    I really like your web site, but how do I get
    to Rockville?

Everyone in the list will receive your message, along with yourself.

To leave the list...

To stop receiving messages from our list you need to send a leave-rcnet message to the list manager. For example:
