Proposed HCA Resolutions
[March 2008]
The following resolutions are proposed by Assn. officers, for consideration and action at the March 30th, 2008 general meeting.
Dawson Farm Park - Add Picnic Tables
Hungerford Civic Association urges the City of Rockville to put picnic tables in the "granary" shelter in Dawson Farm Park. This will make the park a better place for folks to get together, whether as families or community events.
Lighting at Dogwood Park
Hungerford Civic Association urges the City of Rockville to put the tennis court and basketball court lighting on a timer such that users turn on the lights when they need them, but they turn off when not in use. We appreciate that they are timed to go off at 10:00, but see that particularly in winter they frequently aren't in use. Turning off the lights when not in use will reduce electricity consumption and light pollution. It is our hope that this measure will quickly pay for itself in reduced electricity bills. We also suggest that the lighting be reviewed for replacement with more efficient bulbs and “Full cutoff” or “fully shielded” lights such that the light is directed toward the activity intended to be lit without reducing night visibility to the surrounding area. As reported in The New Yorker Magazine, reducing extremely bright night lighting can increase visibility. The City should also consider having the tennis court lights metered so that you feed the meter to turn on the lights.
Mail box
Hungerford Civic Association urges the Postal Service to put a mail box in on W. Edmonston Drive near where W. Edmonston intersects with Wootton Parkway.
