Announcement:

Changed Our Name to
Hungerford Civic Assoc

February 22, 2001

The proposal outlined below to change this Association name from the Hungerford-Stoneridge Civic Assoc. to the simplified Hungerford Civic Assoc. was duly announced and presented to the membership in general meeting February 21, 2001. After an open discussion, the officers moved to approve the proposal by official vote. The proposal was passed (by a vote of 18 to 2 among represented members households).

As mentioned in the proposal, the Civic Assoc. will also advocate for a similar change in the neighborhood name in the local government.

Name Change Proposal

Proposal:

Change the Civic Assoc. name to: Hungerford Civic Association. Request, in local government, that the neighborhood be referred to as Hungerford, understanding that this is synonymous with the area previously called Hungerford-Stoneridge.

Reasons for proposing Civic Assoc. name change:

  1. Hungerford-Stoneridge is a long, awkward name; difficult to pronounce, unwieldy for letterhead or potential signage.
  2. Suggests two-part division in the neighborhood that does not exist (if it ever did).

Using one part of the present two-part name is an obvious naming alternative.

Reasons for prefering the Hungerford part of existing name:

Negative Aspect of Hungerford name:

Can be confused with Hungerford Drive.
