Rockville Science Day
Sunday, April 29th, 2007
Montgomery College, Rockville Campus
Chemistry experiments,
crawling turtles, and rocket launches will come together at the annual
Rockville Science Day, April 29, 2007, on the Rockville Campus of
Montgomery College, 12:00 noon to 5:00 p.m.
Looking for something
different to do on a spring Sunday afternoon for the whole family? Do you
want to experience entertainment that's educational too? Come to
Rockville Science Day 2007. The Rockville Consortium for Science
invites local scientists, historians, engineers, and technology
experts to bring their work to life, with hands-on science and
technology activities for people of all ages. Science is fun!
Features this year
include reptile wonders, living on the moon, genomic lab, and the
ever-popular rocket building and launching workshop. There will be
exhibits that focus on nature, wildlife, and the
environment, including a racing pigeon release. There will be
a section on nutrition, health, and efforts to bring
science literacy to our community. Ham radio operators will
share their hobby and you can see how robots are built and operate.
Astronomers, chemists and physicists will help you
understand the world around us. The American Association of University
Women will hand out awards for excellence in science and mathematics to
young women.
Parking and admission is free.
Come to the Rockville
campus of Montgomery College on Route 355 and Mannakee Street, six
stoplights north of the Rockville Metro station. Enter the campus through
the North Parking lot and start at the gym in the Physical Education
Center. Exhibits are in many buildings around the campus.
Refreshments such as sodas, water, hot dogs, chips, and other snacks
will be available from the Kiwanis Club of Rockville.
Visit
http://www.rockvillescience.org to learn more about the Rockville
Consortium for Science and to see what we did at past Science Days. While
these events annually attract thousands of visitors, they are only a taste
of what we are working towards. Our primary mission is to develop a
science center in our community to support hands-on-science activities
every day. If you are interested in joining us or want additional
information contact Bob Ekman at
bob.ekman@att.net.
Sponsored by the
Rockville Consortium for Science, Inc., the City of Rockville, and
Montgomery College, Rockville Campus. RCS, Inc. is a nonprofit,
educational foundation that presents this event annually to increase
interest in science and technology in the community, especially among
young people.
